Dear Lesbians,

we would like to invite you to take part in the Lesbian Spring Convention (LSC) being held from May 9-12, 2008 in Dresden - the city that for centuries has been a meeting place for European and, due to geographical proximity, particularly Eastern European artists and performers. "Embraced by Europe -Lesbians Everywhere" - our theme reveals the main focus of our workshops, discussion panel and evening programme - lesbian life in (Eastern) European countries.

On the campus of the University of Dresden there will be an extensive programme of culture, politics, history, spirituality, exercise groups and around-the-clock social contacts. There will be merchandise, food and information stalls, an art exhibition, intergenerational meeting places such as the Jules-Café and the SAFIA oasis, as well as relaxation rooms, a memorial room and an emergency room for lesbians in crisis situations.

Several workshops will be held in English. Lesbians requiring or offering interpreting services (also non-German speakers) are asked to contact the helpers’ desk. We will coordinate supply and demand. At the information desk you will also find an overview of our English language events.

OUR FINANCIAL CONCEPT has combined experience from recent years with the requirements of the local setting. It is a necessary compromise that has taken into consideration programme quality requirements, the decisions of past LSCs, our wish for reasonable admission fees, and the rising cost of renting locations and services in the face of less public funding. For organisational reasons we have decided not to adopt the Marburg concept, although we liked the idea and the way it was implemented. We trust in the solidarity and the dedication of all lesbians involved in the LSC. We have maintained graded admission fees based on income; lesbians on a low income have the opportunity to buy a reduced-rate ticket in advance.
In order for the LSC to be successful we rely on everyone to volunteer to help for at least two hours in whatever way they can.

ACCESSIBILITY is a key principle. We have tried to make the LSC in Dresden fully accessible, enabling lesbians with disabilities to participate self-sufficiently.
The venues are all wheelchair accessible and the relaxation rooms are equipped with hospital beds. Wheelchair-accessible accommodation and a transport service are available. Sign language interpreters have been engaged and are available for selected workshops and evening events. Assistance is provided on request. The main lecture hall has an induction loop. The programme is available both in braille and in large print.
The person responsible for accessibility can be contacted both in advance (barrierefrei.2008@lesbenfruehling.de) and at the LSC-information desk.

We warmly welcome lesbians with children (boys up to 10 years of age); we provide childcare and there will be a kid’s theatre on Saturday.

As this year’s LSC organising team we welcome anyone who identifies as a lesbian. We wish for a respectful atmosphere, in which every single lesbian feels welcome and at ease.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 2008@lesbenfruehling.de
